This is not going to be another “robots will inherit the Earth” piece. We’re gonna go much more mundane 🙂
I use AI quite a lot, both at work and privately. The more I use it, the clearer it becomes that it is really good at things that can be put into a box of “hard sciences”, and still really bad at “humanities”. It especially sucks at being creative.
Now, in AI’s defence, people also suck at being creative. Stanisław Lem poked a lot of fun at how SF writers “create” worlds populated with large-tittied tin maidens, and are completely unable to come up with anything that does not resemble a human…with big titties. We can also look at humanity’s mythical creatures – they are all pieces of animal and dead meat sewn together. And AI learns from us. So, how can it be creative, poor guy? :)))))
This being said, here’s a small prediction I’ve got:
Businesses that delegate creative tasks to AI will start to be perceived as uncool and stingy.
What I suppose will happen is this:
- Businesses will start explicitly stating that they use no AI-generated images and instead use actual human-made photography in their visual materials. This may lead to a renaissance of weird-ass visuals, like black-and-white atmospheric photos of trees in puddles, Bauhaus meets gaming pixel backgrounds, and so on – sky is the limit.
- Branding for companies with any aspirations to notoriety will only allow human-made logos. Companies will start asking designers to show them their process and prove they didn’t use AI. So, back to sketchpads, brethren :)))))
- Fiction writers who will be found out to have been using AI to help them write will be flash-mob shamed or even boycotted by angry readers. We will see tearful, heartfelt apologies from them on social media.
- and so on.
Do you think I am right? Time will tell 🙂
